Attendance, Punctuality and Uniform
Attendance
Successful students have excellent attendance and for this reason every student is expected to attend school every day and to be on time for school and lessons. If students are not in school they are missing out on their education. Parents are expected to ensure their sons and daughters attend school, on time, every day.
There is also clear evidence of a link between poor attendance at school and low levels of achievement:
Attendance across Key Stage 4 | Achieving 5A*-C including English and Maths |
---|---|
More than 95% | 74% |
Between 90% and 95% | 57% |
Between 85% and 90% | 41% |
Between 80% and 85% | 29% |
Less than 50% | 4% |
Students should only be absent from school for valid reasons such as genuine illness, a day set aside for religious observance or school arranged activities. The following reasons for absences will not be authorised: shopping during school hours, a family holiday during term time or staying at home to look after siblings or other family members.

Punctuality
Being on time for school and lessons is also required by all of our students. Being on time leads to good attendance and means students don’t miss morning notices, leads to better achievement as students attend all of their lessons and sets positive patterns for the future.
As good attendance and punctuality are vital in securing positive outcomes for students, lateness for school is taken very seriously. For this reason we operate a same day detention for lateness policy if students arrive to school after 8.40am.
Full details of our attendance and punctuality policy can be found on our Policies page.
